⚠️ APGAR scoring is a clinical assessment tool. Scores should be documented in the medical record and interpreted alongside clinical observations by the care team.
Score Interpretation
7–10 — Normal
Newborn is in good health. Routine care and monitoring.
4–6 — Moderate concern
Requires some medical attention and close monitoring. May need stimulation or supplemental O₂.
0–3 — Immediate intervention
Requires immediate resuscitative measures. Call for emergency support.
Score at 1 minute reflects initial adaptation. Score at 5 minutes reflects response to resuscitation. If 5-min score < 7, score every 5 min up to 20 min.
